Not all photography has to be planned or contrived - Here are some images I took when I had a roll of film in my camera for over 6 months and wanted to use it up. I did not even remember that I had B and W film loaded . Lucky me I really like these images no effort good results !

The nature of opinion on art and the dangers of not having one.

This music makes me think so I added it to the blog post - I found it on Youtube - NIN is the band and Trent Reznor the artist. I Watched this song the day after watching the Eurosong final contest in Sweeden and was thinking of how different this music is to what was on that show. Alien almost to what Europeans think generally is a good song. This started me thinking. As I was saying this is way better then all the Eurosongs in my opinion but it would do poorly in the competition - its like really great photography or art being unrecognizable to contemporaries for the most part. I don't think Ireland is nurturing its talent properly. Great writers of the past bring people from all round the world to Writiers Week in Listowel , hopefully one day we will have hundreds of thousands of visitors to the national gallery to see our world class painters , sculptures and photographers - people that clearly see reality for what it is and can express it in an artful way. Not pretentiou

The essence of artistic success

Music, brings this point to my mind. It has been said of music that it is the most dangerous of all the art forms as it can insight to riot or bring a man to tears. Music seems to touch everybody in the masses in a similar fashion. It's musical accessibility that started me thinking and  a rock and roll band and their flawed performance and ingenious talented creativity and appeal that started me pondering. So this blog applies to all the arts painting, music , film and even dance. What makes us great , why are some at the top of the game, revered, isolated and singled out as gods of awesome . We live in a sick culture of celebrity but this is not a new cultural phenomen , it has only been heightened by modern media ever since the invention of books, then photographs and radio and television. We now stand on yet another cultural precipice of social networking one can now go viral in a day or a week - where five hundred years ago it could take a life

Digital Beginnings

Image
Here are some examples of digital images created around 2002 just after I bought my first computer - These are not the first raytraced images I ever did, I used to use povray and moray modeler. These images are some of my first explorations with vue d'esprit 3.1 . They look very dated now for sure but as a platform for visualization, computers and software like this is where artwork should be at.   "Fine art" is struggling to impress the public where film and photography can capture and inspire the masses - there are some giants of the artworld that can capture the beauty and simplicity of art,  Jeff Koons and his wonderful metallic balloon pieces. Ron Mueck is also one of these modern artists that demand attentions and respect  from all but for the most part your average art graduate these days , struggles with the concept, communication and visual unity leaving the average viewer somewhat underwhelmed and thinking WTF is this - its not art.
